Untitled (mother of pearls grafts)
2015-2018
3 sculptures of grafted seashells, circular table, magnifying glass
Irízar made some grafts in farm oysters in Baja California Sur to create sculptures-pearlformations under the collaboration of specialized biologists and following the regulated cultivation protocols. After investigating the symbols of coins and bills, the artist collected the matching forms in the numismatics to produce small plastic molds that were grafted into the oysters and then left them for more than four years at sea
The result is sculptures of pearl where you can see the sculptural formations generated from the slow process of covering the grafted object with sheets and sheets of hexagonal plates of aragonite (crystallized calcium carbonate).
